A very peculiar girl has appeared in one of the Arab countries, Yemen to be precise. She has the body of a female, complete with reproductive system, but she has the face of a kangaroo, which gives her a horrifying appearance. Rumors have spread across town that this girl was born this way because her mother blasphemed against the Holy Qur'an before having intercourse, so God deformed the child in this image. But what is strange is that this is not the only girl of her kind in the world. As a matter of fact, an Australian hospital has announced that another girl who looks like her was born in the hospital. This look-alike girl was the result of sexual intercourse between a 17-year-old Australian virgin girl and a kangaroo, an animal which inhabits the Australian woods, which is where the girl was taking a walk when she saw the kangaroo with which she had sex. The result was a baby girl born in the shape of a kangaroo.

It is worth noting that some of the media posted the rumor on several websites, reporting that this image is that of an Egyptian girl whose mother threw the Qur'an in her face so that she turned into this abnormal animal. However there is no proof of this animal's existence in Egypt, and all we can say is "Allah is truly almighty."

Allow NO Taliban in Bosnia!

Local warlords are undertaking an unprecedented con in the town of Visoko near Sarajevo, Bosnia. In doing so, they are endangering numerous archaeological sites dated back to Neolith as well as some of the possible first traces of human race in Europe.

This informal group includes corrupted wartime politicians, some of which advise to the Bosnia’s Prime Minister, while others fill seats in the Parliament of Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as perform other high-profile governmental duties. There are strong indicators that the group has decided to support a project aimed at turning Bosnia’s common-shaped hills into – ancient pyramids!

While publicly expressing their support for Bosnia joining the European integration processes, these politicians practically do all in their power to stop the progress and to smother civilization values in Bosnia, as well as to fill their own pockets already hardened by estimated $6 billion in stolen foreign aid and donations sent to Bosnia during and after the 1992-1996 war.

The executioner's role was assigned to an amateur explorer of “lost civilizations Atlantis and Mu”. Sam Osmanagich is a construction contractor from Texas who came to the US when the Bosnian war started. He has no education whatsoever in any science.

The claims made by this delusional man (who walks-talks-dresses Indiana Jones style) show his complete disrespect for science and scientific method. For instance, he claims publicly that he alone is going to “change the entire history, and the entire science of the mankind”. One of his particularly amusing public statements was that the pyramids were a way for aliens to communicate! He also said that no shaving razor could ever go used up inside a pyramid...

Recently a foundation was founded, receiving all the government-controlled media support one could imagine. Even worse, the foundation has obtained all the necessary permits despite the public opposition by a renowned scientists and professionals. Against this depravity stands Enver Imamovic, a history professor from the U of Sarajevo, as well as the staff from the National Museum of Bosnia-Herzegovina who publicly called the project - a fraud.

The “project” is happening also in spite of the warnings by world-renowned archaeologists such as Professor Bruce Hitchner from Tufts U, USA, and Professor Blagoje Govedarica of U of Hamburg, Germany, that what this greedy group is after are well-known ancient burial sites!

The amateurish diggs of October 2005 have destroyed numerous Neolithic or pre-Neolithic tombs, while the slabs used originally for paving of the graves were presented to the public as “the walls which build the pyramids”. Several complete human skeletons were dug out, and those appeared only briefly in a media report; soon after they simply vanished from the public eye.

We must stop these corrupted hardline politicians from pulling off yet another scam. Their other failed projects include “Visoko Airport” missing a simple fact that Sarajevo Airport would be its main competition - at just 15 miles away, and “Budapest-Adriatic Highway” that was supposed to be built by some equally ridiculous personalities from Visoko as Mr. Osmanagich is…

As stated in the Foundation's statute (articles 6 and 7), their intended field of operations is not just the Visoko area, but Bosnia and Herzegovina in general. This is a precedent aimed at smothering civilization values in Bosnia, one that could mark the beginning of a Taliban era in Bosnia.

There is no mention whatsoever of such a symbol in the Koran, nor is there any relationship between the crescent and star and the Prophet. Mohammeds flag was black and white, inscribed "Nasr um min Allah" (with the help of Allah).

The early Muslim community did not have a symbol. During the time of the Prophet Muhammad, Islamic armies and caravans flew simple solid-colored (black, green or white) flags, for the purpose of identification. In later generations, the Muslim leaders continued to use simple black, white or green flags, with no markings, writing or symbols on it.

Today, the star and crescent is widely accepted as a symbol of the Islamic faith and like the cross in Christian countries, is used in decorative arts, jewelry, and national flags. It is also associated with the use of the moon to time festivals. It is, however, not accepted by all Muslims. In fact, many Muslims consider it un-Islamic and even blasphemous.

It is said that the five points of the star stand for the five pillars of Islam but this is also no more than conjecture.

The star and crescent moon is a very ancient symbol that pre-dates Islam by several thousand years. Origins of the symbol are difficult to ascertain, but most sources agree that these ancient celestial symbols were in use by the peoples of Central Asia and Siberia and even the Balkans in their worship of sun, moon, and sky gods.

It dates back to early Sumerian civilization, where it was associated with the Sun God and Moon Goddess (one early appearance dates to 2100 BCE), and later, with the Goddess Tanit (above left) - Patron of Carthage and the consort of Baal, Astarte/Ishtar (above right) - the Phoenician Moon Goddess, the Greek Goddess Artemis (below left), worshipped by the Amazons and Roman Diana (below right). The symbol remained in near constant use.

The city of Byzantium (later known as Constantinople and Istanbul) adopted the crescent moon symbol and it was featured on the city's flag. Either chosen in honor of Diana or a Roman victory of the Goths on the first day of a lunar month. It was eventually adopted into the battle-standard of the Ottoman Dynasty, who are mainly responsible for its association with Islam. As the Dynasty was also the policitical head of the faith, it was inevitable that their symbol would be associated with Islam as well.

This emblem, commonly recognized as the symbol of the Islamic faith, has actually acquired its relationship to the faith by association, rather than intent.

Independent archeologist Sam (Semir) Osmanagich will go down in history as the man who discovered the first European pyramids of colossal dimensions, in the mountainous area of Bosnia-Herzegovina, 20 miles north of Sarajevo.

Bosnia's leading Muslim daily Dnevni Avaz writes excitedly about "a sensational discovery" of "the first European pyramid" in the central town of Visoko, just north of Sarajevo.

Excavations at a hill site above the town have been going on for several months and initial analyses "have confirmed the original claim that this is Europe's first pyramid and a monumental building, similar in dimensions to the Egyptian pyramids."

"The pyramid is 100 metres high and there is evidence that it contains rooms and a monumental causeway ... The plateau is built of stone blocks, which indicates the presence at the time of a highly developed civilisation," the daily explains.

"Archaeological excavations near the surface have uncovered a part of a wall and fragments of steps," it reveals.

"Visocica hill could not have been shaped like this by nature," geologist Nada Nukic tells the daily. "This is already far too more than we have anticipated, but we expect a lot more from further analysis," she concludes.

The Prophet Noble Dew Ali has spent many hours preparing the latest edition of the Koran, which will be a masterpiece of Religious Literature. To Americanize the Oriental idea of Islam involves many changes that are more or less negative to the main purpose of the Islamic Religion. It is hard to resist the temptation to use this medium for gain. Hence, many of the former treaties on works of this kind have been the means to foster ideas of the unscrupulous wherein they desired to use religious influence for gain.

The many secrets known to the Prophet that could be used for the salvation of the nation were either left out or colored to an extent that their meaning was made void. Such is not the case with this edition of the Koran.

Thank the Outer Spheres she's wearing a burka, otherwise we might not have figured out she was muslim. I catch myself repeatedly using copy & paste media terms ("A veiled Muslim protester" etc). Who in their right mind as a muslim would hold up banners that say "FREEDOM GO TO HELL", "SLAY THOSE WHO INSULT ISLAM", "EUROPE WILL PAY, DEMOLITION IS ON IT'S WAY" and "BUTCHER THOSE WHO MOCK ISLAM". I won't even mention placards with crude serial killer like drawings depicting torture and mutilation of Kafirs and innocent little children waving the Quran.
I don't know why moderate muslims don't take offence and protest en masse against being thrown in the same bag with these rabid extremists. Personally I am definately pulling the line here. I am no longer going to use Muslim or Islam to describe the hatemongers and their blind sympathisers who do not deserve to be on the forefront of any established religion.

One day, Mulla Nasrudin was sitting at court. The king was complaining that his subjects were untruthful. "Majesty" said Nasrudin, "there is truth and truth. People must practice real truth before they can use relative truth. They always try the other way around. The result is that they take liberties with their man-made truth, because they know instinctively that it is only an invention."
The King thought that this was too complicated. "A thing must be true or false. I will make people tell the truth, and by this practice they will establish the habit of being truthful."
When the city gates were opened the next morning, a gallows had been erected in front of them, presided over by the captain of the royal guard. A herald announced: "Whoever would enter the city must first answer the truth to a question which will be put to him by the captain of the guard."
Nasrudin, who had been waiting outside, stepped forward first.
The captain spoke: "Where are you going? Tell the truth - the alternative is death by hanging."
"I am going," said Nasrudin, " to be hanged on those gallows."
"I don't believe you!"
"Very well then, if I have told a lie, hang me!"
"But that would make it the truth!"
"Exactly," said Nasrudin, "your truth."

"There is an Islamic loophole in our freedom of speech. In the 1990s, a British historical author, Paul Fregosi, was commissioned to write a book about the Islamic crusades against Europe. By April 1997, he had nearly finished the manuscript. Then his publisher, Little, Brown (a part of the AOL Time Warner media octopus), was approached very quietly by Islamic groups. Executives in the British offices of the publishing house had visions of bombs and cut throats dancing in their heads. They did what their polite Islamic visitors demanded. Without uttering a word to the public, they cancelled Paul Fregosi's book. The leading French news agency, Agence France-Presse, was the only media outlet with the guts to cover the tale. It did so in just one brief 254-word piece, then dropped the issue entirely. As an editor at Little, Brown told Fregosi: "We've got to play the game according to Muslim rules."

My publisher — Atlantic Monthly Press — was also threatened in June 1996 because my book, The Lucifer Principle: A Scientific Expedition into the Forces of Hisotry, rips off the masks disguising violence in every society, including the societies of Islam. Arab prsesure groups asked ever so politely that The Luciver Principle be withdrawn from print and that nothing that I write be published again. They offered to boycott my publisher's products — all of them — worldwide. And they backed their warning with a call for my punishment in seventeen Islamic countries.

While Paul Fregosi's book was being stifled and mine was under attack, Simon & Schuster, part of the Viacom media goliath, withdrew a children's book because the Islamic activists demanded it. The execs at S&S say that publishing World Religions: Great Lives by respected historian William Jay Jacobs had been an editorial mistake. The error? An illustration of the prophet Mohammed with a sword in his hand. Said the Muslim pressure groups, the painting was defamatory. Also, the section on Mohammed opens with this paragraph:

Muhammed. The Prophet (or "Messenger of God"). During his lifetime he was a man who loved beautiful women, fine perfume, and tasty food. He took pleasure in seeing the heads of his enemies torn from their bodies by the swords of his soldiers. He hated Christians and Jews, poets and painters, and anyone who criticized him. Once he had a Jewish prisoner tortured in order to learn the location of the man's hidden treasure. Then, having uncovered the secret, he had his victim murdered and added the dead man's wife to the collection of women in his harem.

Because of this paragraph and the painting of the entire book — which contains biographies of 32 major figures of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Asian religions — was recalled, and it remains out of print. Simon & Schuster sent a letter of apology to the Council on Islamic-American relations.

Was the portrayal of Mohammed in World Religions: Great Lives accurate? Mohammed ordered a minimum of 27 military raids, and personally led nine of them. That information comes from one of Islam's most popular modern biographies of Mohammed, a 120-page book published in Lahore, Pakistan, by Islamic Publications Ltd and distributed worldwide, but only in Islamic bookshops. The slender volume is Sarwat Saulat's The Life of the Prophet. Unless you are a potential convert to Islam, this is a book that Muslims do not want you to see.

The most influential twentieth-century interpreter of the Koran, the Ayatollah Khomeini, told all Muslims who would listen that military conquest was an obligation of all Godly men… including the Prophet Mohammed. "The leaders of our religion were all soldiers, commanders, and warriors," he wrote. "They put on military dress and went into battle in the wars that are described for us in our history; they killed, and they were killed. The Commander of the Faithful himself [Mohammed] (upon whom be peace) would place a helmet on his blessed head, don his coat of chain mail, and gird on a sword." So why was Simon & Schuster forced to withdraw a children's book that showed a picture of Mohammed with a sword in his hand? Because this is one of Islam's treasured views of its founder. But you are not allowed to know it."

"In an article in the Amsterdam newspaper De Volkskrant today Dutch cartoonists admit that they do not depict Muhammad out of fear for violent retaliations. “It is a kind of self-censorship,” Stefan Verwey admits. “I have large windows and would rather keep them intact,” says Peter de Wit, while Joep Bertrams concedes. “It causes a lot of problems. Why throw oil on the fire?”

Other cartoonists, however, who have asked to remain anonimous, think that Western artist should not allow themselves to be intimidated and propose an international “Draw Muhammad Week.” Next month a book will be out in the Netherlands which contains a cartoon by Gregorius Nekschot [a pseudonym] of the prophet “in a compromising pose” with his child-wife Aisha.

Will the Netherlands soon be on the Muslims’ boycott list as well? And will Belgium, Germany, Britain and the United States because bloggers in these countries are republishing the Jyllands-Posten cartoons, as well as other pictures of Muhammad?"

THE HUMANITARIAN DR. NICOLA SAVA PICCOLO

N. S. Piccolo is born in Veliko Turnovo from both parents bulgarians. He completes his secondary education in Bucharest with the school of Vardalach who becomes his intellectual father. In 1811 Nicola takes the post of a teacher in French languages at Vardalach’s school. Next we see him as a medicine graduate from Padua /Italy/ and in 1817 as a lecturer at the university of the Chios Isles. On the next year Piccolo together with a group of greek rebels transfers to Odessa where G. Lissani & Co. had a small theater and there three of his plays are performed. Among others “Demosten and Kalauria” had the greatest success.

Now in 1820 Piccolo immigrates to Paris where he meets Dr. A. Corais, an eminent greek naturalist and philosopher, and joins his group. Here studying medicine he also becomes a member of “Philiki eteria”- the Greek revolutionary organization for freedom of turkish yoke. In an appeal to the American people for help in their struggle we see Piccolo's signature in a row with greek revolutionaries. Meanwhile the young scholar continues his work in literature and medicine. In 1823 Lord Guilford, a helenophil and philologist, invites him for a track in philosophy at the University of Corfu Isles. There Piccolo teaches till 1827 and among other activities translates in greek Decartes “Discourse on the method”.

After the liberation of Greece and the Odrins peace treaty Count Pavel Kisselov, russian governor of the Danubian Principalities, appoints him as inspector general of schools and hospitals /1929/. At his new post in Bucharest Piccolo excels as talented administrator. He establishes modern tuition scheme, substitutes Greek language for Rumanian and introduces studies of natural sciences. Further he organizes sanitary affairs and hospitals, creates quarantine checkpoints on Danube’s harbors and engages in political activities. It is with Piccolo's intercession to Prince Stephan Begird that the idea of an autonomous principality of Bulgarians is created in Dobruja, however, a cholera epidemia hinders the project.

In 1839 Dr. Piccolo resides in Paris. There he becomes active member of bulgarian emigrant community. He partakes in many political debates and campaigns. During piece conference in Paris after the Crimean war, Dr. Piccolo and Dr. Beron work out a special petition which demands autonomy of Bulgaria together with the other Balkan nations. It is a serious fact, among others, that common truth at that times was the thesis of the Slavic origin of the greek people. Nevertheless, Piccolo never mastered the bulgarian language. He also was an atheist which is evident from the fact that only 1500 golden francs from his testament were dedicated to the church.

As a man of letters Nicola Piccolo was a follower of a Cartesian philosophy, rationalist and eclecticist. He has definitive role in the formation of modern Greek literary history. He is also one of the eminent figures of bulgarian national revival.

AMERICAN TROOPS LAUNCH 'EXORCIST' TOUR AT ANCIENT TEMPLE

(ZNDA: Baghdad) For a country recently purged of its chief tormentor, it is perhaps a grimly appropriate theme for its first new tourist attraction.

American troops in Iraq have launched what has been dubbed "The Exorcist Experience", after discovering that the ancient ruins they were guarding provided the location for the 1973 horror classic's opening sequence.

They now plan to help locals put the 2,000-year-old city of Hatra back on the international tourist map by marketing it as a future holiday destination to fans of the cult film.

Using a modest $5,000 (£2,800) grant, the soldiers have recruited local guides and guards to the city and built a car park and police station nearby. They have also revamped the nearby Saddam-built Hatra Hotel, which they hope to privatise.

"Once it's up and running again as a visitors' spot, this place will be a real moneypot," said Capt Nik Guran of the 2-320 Field Artillery Regiment, attached to the 101st Airborne Division. "The film will just add to the numbers of people coming here. You should see it all at night - we've put in floodlights and it looks really beautiful."

The regiment hatched the plan to revamp the Assyrian site's derelict visitors' facilities after spending the summer living in Hatra's 200ft-high sun temples to protect them from looters. An oasis of pre-Christian civilisation in the middle of the desert south-west of Mosul, Hatra's finely preserved columns and statues make it one of the most impressive of Iraq's archaeological sites.

After spending several months looking after the site and researching its history, most of the soldiers can now discourse knowledgeably on the various Assyrian, Sumerian and Parthian influences on its butterscotch-coloured stonework.

Pointing with a hand that guided 105mm howitzer shells during the war in Iraq, Capt Guran slips fluently into tour-guide mode as he strides towards the 100ft iwans - huge, open-fronted vaulted halls that resemble Arab guest-tents. Initially, the troops thought the main interest would come from archaeology enthusiasts who flocked there decades ago, before Saddam virtually closed the site to the outside world.

They only realised its marketing potential to millions of fans of the world's most famous horror film when, completely by chance, Capt Guran watched The Exorcist on a portable DVD player one night.

To his astonishment, he spotted Hatra's distinctive skyline in the director William Friedkin's opening sequence, in which a priest at an archaeology dig unearths the ancient Mesopotamian demon that goes on to possess a young American girl. "It was filmed a bit before Saddam really came to power, and the opening scene was made at an actual excavation that was taking place here at the time," said Capt Guran, 30.

"I thought, 'Wow - that's the place we've been guarding'. We've spent so much time down here, you recognise it straightaway."

Saddam would no doubt have admired Hatra's defensive record against invading superpowers, which involved using early forms of chemical and biological weapons. Naptha bombs and jars of desert scorpions were poured over the outer wall to successfully repel Roman invaders , according to the classical folklorist Adrienne Mayor.

More recently, the temple has been associated with the so-called Exorcist's Curse, said to have plagued all those involved in the film with bad luck.

"We had an incident a while back where one soldier shot another, and there were mutterings about it being the curse of Hatra," said Capt Guran. "We had to stop that right away."

The city was left in ruins after it was sacked and burnt by Sapor, the Sassanian Persian king, in AD 241. The impressive temple complex dedicated to several Hatrene gods, the chief of which was the sun god Shamash, lies in the very centre of its limestone and gypsum walls.

Mohammad Sulaiman, 35, a former US army translator who has been trained to manage the hotel, hopes it will revive the economic fortunes of the poverty-stricken local town. "This is our heritage and we want to show it to all the world," he said. "Hopefully, now that Saddam has been captured, peace will come and the tourists will return."

Lt Col Kevin Felix, who had the original idea of revamping the site, said: "I would love to come back in a few years' time and stay as a tourist at the hotel, if things work out in this country. I guess it will either be doing brilliantly, or it will have burned to the ground."

Comedian Richard Pryor dies at 65

(CNN) -- Just days after his 65th birthday, groundbreaking comedian Richard Pryor died Saturday of a heart attack, his wife told CNN.

Pryor, who had been ill with multiple sclerosis, died at Encino Hospital near Los Angeles at 7:58 a.m. PT. Jennifer Lee Pryor tried to revive him at their home before paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital, she said.

"He enjoyed life right up until the end," she said, adding that Pryor had been laughing a lot and was in good spirits in the two weeks preceding his death. "At the end, there was a smile on his face."

BASIL WOLVERTON'S APOCALYPSE

Wolverton's Worldview BY MONTE WOLVERTON

Longtime aficionados of Basil Wolverton are aware that he is somewhat of a paradox. On the one hand he was a Christian minister - quiet, humble, generous to a fault - morally and socially conservative - always ready with a word of encouragement or humor. On the other hand, he created some of the most terrifying religious art since Hieronymus Bosch. And much of Wolverton's bizarre, frenetic secular work wasn't any less shocking. Like Bosch (an excellent cartoonist himself), the key to understanding Wolverton is an understanding of his religious convictions. The threads of Wolverton's creativity and his religion are inextricably woven together.

Wolverton's beliefs derived largely from the bizarre and eclectic teachings of Herbert Armstrong, a Chicago advertising and marketing man who had experienced an economic downturn in the early 1920's. Armstrong had moved his family to Oregon, in search of greener pastures. There, among a group of seventh-day sabbatarians, he became convinced that the Anglo-Saxon people were part of the descendants of the "Lost Ten Tribes of the House of Israel." A high-school dropout with no formal theological education, Armstrong thought he had discovered the heretofore lost key to all biblical prophecy, and that the Tribulation spoken of in the book of Revelation would shortly fall on the United States and the nations of the British Commonwealth.

Not unlike many evangelical preachers of the early 1930's, Armstrong adopted a dispensationalist paradigm, with a with a pre-millennialist, literal interpretation of the apocalyptic sections of scripture - albeit with his own particular spin. The Bible, he taught, predicted imminent worldwide calamities, followed by the return of Christ and a happy Millennium, followed by the destruction of the wicked, followed by the advent of new heavens and earth.

As he began his ministry in Eugene, Oregon, Armstrong was convinced God had chosen him to bring a warning message to the world. In fact, he gradually became deluded into thinking he was the only true messenger of God in this age. To proclaim his message, Armstrong began a radio program, The World Tomorrow, and a magazine, The Plain Truth. As Armstrong's following grew, so did the threat of a second world war. He believed this was it - the Beast, the Antichrist, and the whole end-time enchilada. Armstrong, of course, was wrong - and this would not be the last time.

In the late 1930's, Herbert Armstrong's radio broadcast attracted the attention of a Vancouver, Washington comic artist, Basil Wolverton. The son of devout Christian parents, Wolverton had slipped into agnosticism. Armstrong changed that. Wolverton was baptized in 1941 and ordained an elder in 1943. During these years, Wolverton was also busily producing his comic book features - such as Spacehawk, Powerhouse Pepper, Rockman, Disk-Eyes the Detective, Scoop Scuttle, and Mystic Moot and His Magic Snoot.

When Armstrong moved his growing operation to Pasadena, California in 1946, he relied on Wolverton to pastor a small congregation in the Portland area. That same year, Wolverton achieved national fame outside of comics aswinner of Al Capp's Lena the Hyena contest. This led to his grotesque drawings and caricatures being featured in Life and Pageant magazines. In the early 1950's, Wolverton also produced his finest comic book work - 17 horror and science fiction features, including "Brain -Bats of Venus" and "The Eye of Doom." The early MAD magazine utilized Wolverton's unique talents - and they continue to use his art today.

Meanwhile, Armstrong's Radio Church of God (later renamed WorldwideChurch of God), and Ambassador College were growing, as were his broadcasting and publishing efforts. In the early 1950's, he commissioned Wolverton to begin work on two projects. One was writing and illustrating a story of the Old Testament, which began serial publication in The Plain Truth in 1958 - later to be published in six volumes. The other was this series of spectacular illustrations depicting shocking scenes from the Book of Revelation, to accompany a series of articles on that subject in The Plain Truth. Later reprinted in two booklets, 1975 in Prophecy and The Book of Revelation Unveiled at Last.

During the 60's and 70's, Wolverton continued to be active in local ministry, while continuing to work on his story of the Old Testament, while continuing to create increasingly bizarre humorous work for a variety of publications and clients: Plop magazine, Barker greeting cards, Topps, and others.

Basil Wolverton died in 1978. Herbert Armstrong died in 1986. Shortly thereafter, a reformed Worldwide Church of God abandoned Armstrong's unorthodox doctrinal constructs, including Anglo-Israelism, an emphasis on prophecy, and ecclesiastical exclusivism. The Plain Truth magazine continues publication, albeit with very different content.

These drawings are an important historical record, not only of a fanatically (albeit well-intentioned) literal view of biblical prophecy, but of the mindset of the mid -1950's. The bomb - the threat of disorder and the breakdown of society - radioactivity - disease epidemics - cataclysms - things which caused the 1950's citizen to break out in perspiration. These are things (perhaps no less impending - who knows?) at which we yawn today. But as you gaze upon Wolverton's images of the ultimate cataclysm, you just might find a few beads of sweat breaking out on your forehead.

In the early 1950's, evangelist Herbert W. Armstrong asked artist Basil Wolverton to create a series of horrifying scenes of the end of the world as we know it. Wolverton's work in horror and science fiction comics had prepared him well to execute this assignment in a unique and frightening way. These sixteen pieces represent some of Basil Wolverton's best work, done at the peak of his skill - contemporary with his finest horror/science fiction comic book work, and his early work for MAD magazine.

The following fifteen pieces (orig. sixteen) are not for sensitive viewers. They are disturbing, grotesque scenes of horror and destruction. Yet tens of thousands of people believe this artwork to be a prophetic vision of the future. Judge for yourself.

Grant Wallace was born in Hopkins, Missouri, in 1868, the son of a judge. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western College in Shenandoah, Iowa, in 1889, after which he took classes at the Art Students League in New York City. Around 1892 he moved to San Francisco and worked as an artist and reporter for the Examiner, an editorial and feature writer for the Chronicle, and a war correspondent for the Evening Bulletin in Japan and China. Later he entered politics, wrote short stories and screen plays, and lectured on occultism. In the years following the First World War, Wallace became increasingly obsessed with trying to unlock the secrets of the universe. He built a small laboratory in the redwood forests near Carmel, California, where, working alone each day, he experimented with "sublimated telepathy" or what he sometimes referred to as "mental radio." Using elaborate mathematical calculations, he attempted to arrive at formulae that would reveal the patterns of life and prove that reincarnation was real, that there is intelligent life on other planets, and that it is possible to communicate with spirits beyond the grave. He filled dozens of notebooks with messages from the dead, including not only ancient Greeks and Egyptians, cavemen from the lost continent of Atlantis, and Viking sailors, but also more recent figures such as Thomas Jefferson and Charles Darwin. Cleric says arachnids as big as a chair killed soldiers in battle

An Iraqi sheik claims Allah sent giant spiders to the town of Fallujah to help its residents fend off attacks by U.S. military forces.

Sheik Mahdi Saleh Al-Sumide'i spoke to Syrian TV on Monday, claiming several Arab television stations videotaped the helpful arachnids.

The interview is featured on the website of the Middle East Media Research Institute TV Monitor Project, or MEMRI TV. The organization translated the conversation into English.

"They [the Americans] attacked Fallujah and tried to cause great damage to its residents," he explained. "They destroyed mosques and homes, killed women, children and youths, and spread corruption in Fallujah. Nevertheless, we believe that Allah protects the believers, and indeed, Allah stood beside Fallujah, and I'd like to mention some miracles Allah performed in Fallujah. It is possible that the media does not know about them."

Continued Al-Sumide'i: "The first miracle that occurred in Fallujah took the form of spiders that appeared in the city – each spider larger than this chair, or about the size of this chair. The American soldiers left, holding the legs of this spider, and I too, in one of the Friday sermons, held up a spider, with all its magnitude, in front of the satellite channels and in front of the world. This spider also had thin black hair. If this hair touches the human body, within a short period of time the body becomes black or blue, and then there is an explosion in the blood cells in the human body - and the person dies."

The sheik's interviewer then asked about the alleged TV coverage: "The people saw it, but the TV stations did not air it?"

Responded Al-Sumide'i: "The people saw it and the TV stations indeed aired it. I held the spider, and there were between 13 to 15 TV stations, including Al-Arabiya, Al-Jazeera, Al-Majd, Dubai, Abu-Dhabi and other stations, and they saw it with their own eyes."

Some Arab Internet sites have repeated claims of Iraqis about the spiders, and there also are stories circulating of phantom white-robed knights on white horses sent by Allah that killed U.S. Marines in battle.

In a statement reminiscent of Saddam Hussein's spokesman, "Baghdad Bob," the sheik claimed the U.S. was underestimating the number of American casualties in Iraq by a factor of 100.

"Today, if a hundred Americans are killed, they say there was one casualty," he said, "and if dozens of tanks were blown up, they say one was blown up. No one will notice the losses caused to the American forces until they return to their bases – if they return, and in my opinion they will not return – but if they return, the world will see and the American people will see the number of losses."

Al-Sumide'i claimed there were mass graves in Iraq filled with the bodies of American forces.

"A mass grave was created in a desert area near the Saudi boarder for the American soldiers killed. There is also a lake near Al-Sa'diya. The Americans place the casualties inside white or black bags, seal them and toss them from a plane into the lake."
